Description

Reporting to the General Manager, this position will oversee technical aspects of the business, including customer / specification / regulation input review, sales engineering, research and development, product design engineering, manufacturing engineering process development, tooling design, sourcing and construction, quality assurance, quality control, product compliance, and after-sale technical and warranty support. This position will ensure coordination among technical functions, ensure effective capabilities of all technical business functions, drive improvement of those functions, and improve manufacturing capabilities through the actions of technical functions. This position will build a team with technical talent to ensure excellence in all aspects of above.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide innovative thought leadership on strategies to grow market share, increase profitability, and meet long-term business goals to the engineering team.
  • Manage various engineering teams from design, technical sales and after-sale support, project management and production to ensure that any problems are immediately addressed.
  • Implement approved corporate policies and ensure managers and staff perform their duties and responsibilities.
  • Plan and develop the department’s operating and capital budgets and manage expenses to conform with budget.
  • Implement and require compliance with approved best engineering practices and methods.
  • Schedule divisional engineering projects and ensure efficient personnel utilization.
  • Work with business unit (BU) engineering, quality, and technical support leaders to develop long and short-range plans.
  • Work closely with the divisional BU’s to manage VA/VE projects.
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement of products and processes to better serve customers and improve the overall profitability of the company. Make suggestions for improving product quality, processes, safety, and company profitability.
  • Work with BU engineering leads to ensure the proper number and talent composition of the engineering staff.
  • Maintain design adherence taking into consideration the cost, operation, reliability, manufacturability, adjustment, assembly, weight, installation, clearances, serviceability, standardization and adherence to industry standards and parameters to assure acceptable feasibility and integrity of product.
  • Interpret and set design objectives, correlating, and assisting in the development of design and drawings to assure adherence to complete model concept to assure maximum efficiency of complete company product or unit thereof and help in the flow of information from group to group.
  • Maintain design liaison with new or revised parts through the various stages of manufacture and/or experimental fabrication or test, interpreting design requirements and practicality of developed design and making modifications necessary to assure engineering soundness.
  • Maintain a complete uniform and up-to-date record of all projects and drawings which have been completed.

  • Follow the company Health and Safety Rules, ensure safe operating conditions within area of responsibility, and notify coworkers and supervisors of hazardous acts and conditions. Proper use of PPE; use only defect-free equipment. Promote safety in department. Use proper lifting techniques and overhead hoist when needed. Maintain clean and safe working environment in line with 5-S Philosophy. Participate in hazardous communication training and safety meetings.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 lbs without assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree of Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education required, advanced degree is preferred.
  • 10-15 years of related experience, including 5+ years of management experience.

Work Environment/Conditions:

  • General office environment with work on the plant floor as required.
