The Mechanical Designer / Drafter is responsible for creating accurate and production-ready drawings and models to support the development and manufacturing of Collins Bus products. This role works closely with engineers, production teams, and R&D to translate concepts and sketches into practical, buildable designs that support high-quality, safe, and efficient manufacturing.
Success in this position requires a self-starter who is enthusiastic about making a difference, open to new ideas, and thrives in a collaborative, hands-on environment. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, contribute, and work across departments to help solve problems and continuously improve our products and processes.
Office and production floor environments (temperature and noise level may vary). Frequent interaction with shop floor personnel, including observation of parts, assemblies, and prototype installations. Use of PPE required in designated manufacturing areas (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, etc.).
Office and engineering tools including computers, CAD software, printers, and measurement tools. Occasional use of hand tools and exposure to manufacturing equipment during prototype and fixture development.
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
Regular lifting of up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
Manual dexterity to operate drafting tools and measurement devices.
Visual acuity for detail work including 3D modeling and print inspection.
