Overview: The Assistant Plant Manager will oversee Collins’ production operations. This position ensures that manufacturing remains a smooth and efficient process. This role requires the ability to monitor employees and organize workflow. The Assistant Plant Manager must be skilled in complex operations and able to comprehend the multifaceted nature of the manufacturing process. This role requires the ability to optimize day-to-day activities while minimizing cost.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Align and champion Collins’ core values, including safety, quality, and delivery.
  • Ability to set daily/weekly/monthly goals, communicating them effectively to employees.
  • Schedule labor and move employees based upon skill set for needed production tasks to ensure a smooth operation.
  • Strong knowledge of organizational workflow and ability to delegate by assigning responsibilities and establishing deadlines.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and disciplining employees as necessary.
  • Complete Supervisor Standard Work daily, as well as look for opportunities for improvement within our OpEx culture.
  • Commitment to safety regarding use of equipment.
  • Knowledge of all essential equipment and ability to oversee and schedule regular maintenance.
  • Analytical skills to monitor production output and check for compliance with specifications.
  • Ability to generate and submit reports on performance and progress.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including ability to spot issues in efficiency/productivity and suggest improvements.
  • Strong coaching and training skills to onboard new employees, including instruction on safety, e.g., how to safely use machinery and follow procedures.
  • Willingness to enforce compliance with safety guidelines and company standards.
  • Complete 90 day and annual reviews for all employees in the department.
  • Ensures quality assurance process is being followed.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, associate degree in a technical, engineering, or relevant field is preferred
  • Five (5) years’ experience in the manufacturing facility with people leadership experience.
  • Fundamental use of various pneumatic and power tools. Must be familiar with the safe operation of various tools – drill, screw gun, sander, jig saw, etc.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel to include presenting information to individuals and small groups.
  • Advanced problem solving and project management skills
  • Ability to lead personnel toward the achievement of company goals
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification preferred
  • Proficient PC skills including MS Office Suite
  • Advanced time management skills
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly.
  • Ability to implement and direct environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and layout and other written or verbal instructions presented in English.
  • Ability to read and use linear and other measuring devices.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Be trained in Hazardous Materials Handling Operations and Hazardous Waste training with an annual refresher course.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 2-year college degree in Engineering/Manufacturing/Business Administration preferred.
  • Five (5) years’ experience with proficiency in the specialty vehicle manufacturing field. Experience in managing technical personnel highly desirable.
